The Difference between Ultrasound Sensor and Sonar Sensor

Sonar sensor and ultrasonic sensor are two kinds of detection devices that are often heard of. Many people think they are two kinds of sensors. What is the difference between the two kinds of sensors?
Sonar sensor detects and recognizes the contours of objects in water and underwater directly. Sonar sensor sends out an acoustic signal. When it encounters an object, it will reflect back. Its distance and position are calculated according to the reflection time and wave pattern. Ultrasound is a kind of mechanical wave whose vibration frequency is higher than that of sound wave. It is generated by the vibration of transducer wafer under the excitation of voltage. It has the characteristics of high frequency, short wavelength, small diffraction phenomenon, especially good direction and directional transmission. Sonar sensors are mainly used to detect organisms, such as which organisms are under the water and how big they are. Often ask what you hear about the device used to detect water monsters is sonar sensors.
Ultrasound has great penetration ability to liquid and solid, especially in opaque solids, which can penetrate tens of meters deep. When ultrasound touches impurities or interfaces, it will produce significant reflection and form echoes. When it touches a moving object, it will produce Doppler effect. Therefore, ultrasonic detection is widely used in industry, national defense, biomedicine and other fields. Ultrasound sensor is a kind of sensor based on the characteristics of ultrasound. In industry, the typical applications of ultrasound are nondestructive testing of metals and ultrasonic thickness measurement. Ultrasound sensor is mainly used to diagnose diseases in medicine. It has become an indispensable diagnostic method in clinical medicine.
Matters needing attention

1: In order to ensure reliability and long service life, do not use sensors outdoors or in places above rated temperature.

2: The jet from the nozzle has many frequencies, so it will affect the sensor and should not be used near the sensor.

3: Because the ultrasonic sensor uses air as the transmission medium, when the local temperature is different, the reflection and refraction at the boundary may lead to misoperation, and the detection distance will change when the wind blows. Therefore, sensors should not be used next to equipment such as forced fans.

4: Water droplets on the surface of the sensor shorten the detection distance.

5: Material such as fine powder and cotton yarn cannot be detected when absorbing sound (reflective sensor).

6: Sensors should not be used in vacuum or explosion-proof areas.

7: Do not use sensors in areas where there is steam; the atmosphere in this area is not uniform. Temperature gradient will occur, which will lead to measurement errors.
